Please join us as singer, songwriter and geophysicial engineering undergrad Nynaeve Phillipson makes her first appearance at the Concert Series on Friday, January 24.  Nynaeve will be playing a blend of original and cover alt indie-rock tunes.

Nynaeve has already explored many paths before blending music with engineering and coming to Mines.  According to Nynaeve, “Music has always been an integral part of my life. My mom was a talented flutist while my dad was the lead singer and guitarist in a rock band, so my fate to be a part of the musical world was pretty much set in stone. The first instrument I played was the violin. I was obsessed with Celtic Women and dreamt of being in the New York City Orchestra. I even got a few lessons from my mom’s friend who went to Julliard.”

At 10 years old, Nynaeve enrolled in an online school to pursue a career as an elite gymnast. Gymnastics left her no time to pursue music.  At age 15, she got her first guitar, a shimmery purple Luna with a bright big flower.  Since then, she has played at countless open mics and several paid gigs.  Per Nynaeve, “I turn to my music when I’m struggling with something because songwriting is the most cathartic thing I know how to do. I also turn to my craft when I’m happy because singing and playing bring me more joy than most anything can in this world.”
