Ed Raines will discuss the geology of Aspen focusing on the Leadville Limestone on Thursday, Jan 14 at 4:00 in the Library

Before Aspen became one of the world's best-known ski resorts, it first achieved wealth and notoriety from its role in the Colorado Silver Boom. This month, Ed Raines, Geology Museum Collections Manager and Mining Historian will present two talks on the geology and the history of the Aspen District.

January 24th:

“The History of Aspen.” Aspen had an up and down journey from failing mining camp to boom-town to victim of the Silver Purchase Act to ski resort. This presentation will discuss the history of Aspen from its history of mineral mining through the establishment of the city’s first coffee shop and beyond.
